The Alfred University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each defeated visiting Utica College in an Empire 8 Conference dual meet Friday afternoon in Lebohner Pool.

The AU men won, 125-52, to improve to 6-0 on the season (4-0 Empire 8) and run their dual-meet winning streak to 18. The Alfred women’s team won, 138-103, to earn its first conference dual meet of the year, improving to 2-5 overall (1-3 Empire 8).

Junior Matt Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) paced the AU men’s team with a win in the 500-yard freestyle. His time of 4:48.26 broke the previous Lebohner Pool record of 4:48.43 set 24 years ago by John Jewell.

Also earning wins for the Alfred men’s team were: junior Brian Agro (Gray, ME/Cheverus) in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke; freshman Matt Lobban (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) in the 400-yard freestyle; senior Page Beecher (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) in the 400-yard individual medley; senior Dan Schubmehl (Rochester, NY/Penfield) in 1-meter diving, required; freshman Zach Mix (Mt. Morris, NY/Mt. Morris) in the 100-yard butterfly; sophomore Andrew Brisson (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) in the 100-yard freestyle; junior Mark Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) in the 100-yard backstroke; and sophomore Kameron Chambliss (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) in 1-meter diving, optional.

The AU men swept the relays, with senior Jon Wordingham (Prattsburgh, NY/Naples), Agro, junior Scott Sarkissian (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and Mix winning the 200-yard medley relay and Mark Baker, Matt Baker, freshman Tyler Olsen (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga) and Brisson taking the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The AU women’s team was led by junior Jessie Caccamo (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa), who earned wins in the 1,00-yard and 500-yard freestyle; and freshman Sarah Blair (Auburn, NY/Auburn), who won the 100-yard and 50-yard freestyle.

Other AU women earning victories were senior Lyndsay Scypta (Plymouth, MI/Cranbrook-Kingswood) in the 400-yard IM; sophomore Meghan Jones Beaver Falls, NY/Beaver River) in the 100-yard backstroke; and freshman Elyse Caldwell (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) in 1-meter diving, optional.

The team of Blair, Caccamo, and freshman Calista Merritt (Conesus, NY/Livonia) and Kate Cohen (Bradford, PA/Bradford) won the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Alfred is in action next on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. for a dual meet against visiting LeMoyne.
