Canadian diver Alexandre Despatie will be sidelined for four to six weeks after breaking a bone in his foot during his daily training session in Montreal on Thursday afternoon.
He broke the fifth metatarsal in a bad landing of a jump during the poolside warm-up that precedes training in the pool.
"This is very disappointing since I love competing and I was looking forward to the next few weeks with a great deal of enthusiasm," Despatie, 22, said in a statement.
"I'll be speaking with my doctors and the management of the national team in the next few days to devise a plan that will help me get back into action as quickly as possible. Even if my plans for the Olympics do not appear to be compromised, I don't want to rush things because I want to have all the odds in my favour once I'm back in the game."
Despatie will miss the world diving series, taking place in Mexico and Great Britain, the Grand Prix meet in the U.S. and the 2008 Canada Cup in Montreal from May 1-4.
