The Stillwater girls' swimming and diving team celebrated another successful season with their postseason awards banquet on Sunday at The Grand in downtown Stillwater.

Stillwater finished with a 10-0 record, including 8-0 to win the Suburban East Conference. The Ponies won the True Team Section 4AA title and captured their fourth consecutive True Team state championship. They also won the Section 4AA championship and placed fourth at the state meet - finishing just two points out of second place.

"To get fourth and to be that close to getting second you sit down and kind of go, oh, but from where they came from and where they ended up - and to win True Team state for the fourth year in a row - you try not to let a half a point or two points be the only thing you remember."

Stillwater also extended its JV winning streak to 12 years after capping another unbeaten season with the JV conference championship.

Senior Maddie Frost, one of 15 All-Suburban East Conference performers, was named the Most Valuable Athlete for the Ponies. Frost was among a group of 14 state qualifiers, list that included teammates Meghan Talbot, Kayla Smith, Torie Buberl, Jordan Bowen, Anna Kaye, Kaela Anderson, Hannah Bowen, Monica Radecke, Maggie Keefer, Alyssa Fedor, Betsy Galenti, Katie Dorwart and Mady Gockowski.

Anna Kaye, Brittney Nelson and Angie Wieden received all-conference honorable mention recognition.

Dorwart garnered the Kris Eichten Memorial Medal while Angie Wieden was presented the Coaches Award. Kaye, Jordan Bowen, Galenti and Mackenzie Voeller were named captains for the 2008 team.

Anderson won an individual state title in the 200 individual medley to go along with her gold medal in the 500 freestyle from a year ago. Anderson was joined in earning all-state honors by Keefer, the state diving runner-up, Jordan Bowen, Radecke, Hannah Bowen and Galenti. That same group also earned All-American honors while Katie Dorwart and Alyssa Feder earned Academic All-American status.

This year's team included 37 section qualifiers and a staggering 48 individuals who achieved perfect attendance.

"Out of 71 that's a pretty good number," Luke said.

The Ponies were also active out of the pool this season. After learning about an accident that left Jane Luke's niece Kaley Theis in a coma for four-and-a-half weeks, team members organized a fund-raiser with the help of Woody's bowling alley in Bayport. The event raised $500 and a check was presented to Jane for Theis at the banquet. Theis is a senior at Lakeville South High School.

"She was in intensive care for like six weeks and now she seems on her way back to normalcy, but the medical bills are astronomical," Luke said. "They did it, they thought it up, so that was nice."

The evening, which drew approximately 240 coaches, friends and family members, also included a slide presentation with music commemorating many of the season's highlights.
