Virginia Tech outfielder Jose Cueto remembers every step of his big play against the Yankees.

“I kind of drop-stepped back and realized uh-oh that’s not going to reach back here. I had to run forward, and it was a last minute dive,” Cueto said. “It’s against the Yankees, and I’m a college kid. Every college kid dreams of this – robbing a play from a big leaguer. That’s something I’m always going to carry with me.”

It’s not going to be hard for him to forget his hit either. It was one of the two total the Hokies had against New York.

“I was swinging at everything. I was so nervous. I was just really aggressive at the plate,” he said.

Cueto and his teammates played to win the game, but in the end the scoreboard really didn’t matter to him, his teammates, or the more than 5300 people in the stands.

“It was like little league. You go there, you play, and no matter who wins, you’re still a winner,” he said. “This is definitely something I’m going to remember for a long while.”
