Sophomore diver Nathan LaRowe (Latham/Shaker) led the men’s swimming and diving team at the State University of New York Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships where the SUNY Potsdam men’s and women’s teams competed over the weekend.
LaRowe, who was named to the men’s All-Conference Second Team, placed 3rd in both the 1 and 3-meter diving events, scoring 507.70 points in the 3-meter and 456.75 in the 1 meter. Three other Potsdam divers placed in the 3 meter event, with freshman Nick Messore (Latham/Shaker) finishing next best at 9th. BrianTowers (Harrisville/Harrisville) placed 14th in the event while Eric Monte (Glendale/St. John’s) finished 19th.
The men’s team other top finishes came in the 200 free relay and the 200 medley relay. The 200 medley relay team of Carl Barr (Farmersville/Ten Broeck Academy), Brian Haines (Endicott/Union-Endicott), Alex Rounds (Johnson City/Maine Endwell) and Dan Callahan (Brewster/Brewster) finished 5th with a time of 1:40.60. Barr and Haines then joined Matt Meany (Stony Point/North Rockland) and Dan Traina (Rochester/Eastridge) to place 6th in the 200 free relay (1:30.03).
Senior Carl Barr also finished 8th in the 100-yard backstroke after swimming the “A-Final” in :58.78. Freshman Dan Callahan added another 8th place finish for the men, swimming the 50-yard freestyle in :22.20. The men placed in six other events, both individual and team.
Leading the women’s team was the 400 medley relay team of Adrienne Brown (Endwell/Endwell), Kate Edwards (Cicero/CNS), Tori Ebert (Middletown/Middletown) and Rachel McKinney (Millport/Odessa Montour). The four placed 5th in the medley relay with a time of 4:26.68. Ebert, Edwards, McKinney and freshman Sarah Edwards (Ebens Mills/Indian River) added a 6th place finish in the 200 medley relay (2:01.16).
Finishing in 12th place in the 200-yard butterfly was Jen Mosher (Millport/Odessa Montour). With a time of 2:26.05 in the “B-Final”, Mosher was the top individual swimmer for the women. The women placed in four other events, two individual finishes and two team.
The men’s squad finished sixth among nine teams with a total of 210 points, while the women placed eighth (133.5 points) out of nine teams. Geneseo won both the men’s and women’s championships.
