Indiana University redshirt junior Christina Loukas was one of 12 divers named to the 2008 World Cup Team, USA Diving announced Sunday.

Loukas will be one of two USA representatives in the 3-meter springboard competition, joining Cassidy Krug. The FINA Diving World Cup will take place in Beijing, China, Feb. 19-24. In addition, Indiana head diving coach Jeff Huber has been named one of the coaches for the USA squad.

"I am very excited for Christina," Huber said. "She has worked extremely hard since placing second at the World University Games in August 2007.

She is much improved and it really showed at the selection camp. My goal for her now is to continue her progress and have a strong, competitive performance at the World Championship."

The World Cup will serve as an Olympic qualifying competition. The U.S. will be looking to earn another six Olympic spots, having already secured six spots at the 2007 World Championships. For the women, the U.S. needs to earn spots in both synchronized events and has one spot to fill on 10-meter.

Loukas is redshirting this season to focus on preparations for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. The U.S. Olympic Team Trials will be held June 18-22 in Indianapolis
