Victoria's Riley McCormick posted a perfect 10 on his first dive en route to the gold medal in the men's 10-metre tower on Sunday to conclude the Lambertz-Springen junior international diving competition in Aachen, Belgium.
"It was the first time in my career that I received a 10 for that dive," said McCormick, 16, a strong contender to land an Olympic 10-metre spot at selection trials in June. "That got me so pumped up, that I lacked some concentration in the second round. I was very pleased with how I bounced back from that."
McCormick posted a 10, two 9.5s and two 9.0s on his opening inward 3 1/2. He struggled on his second dive then finished with strong scores on his final three dives.
In the 16-18 age group, McCormick was the winner with 552.70 points, ahead of a pair of Germans. Stephan Rudolph was second at 515.30 and Johannes Donay third at 507.15.
In the women's three-metre in the 16-18 age group, Sabrina Beaupre, of Longueuil, Que., was fourth and Hailey Casper of Calgary ninth in the final.
On boys' one-metre springboard in the 14-15 age group, Cole Miller, of Regina, and Olivier Morneau-Ricard, of Quebec City, were eighth and ninth
