MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING (10-5): Jan. 19 at Fredonia w/Nazareth
The Bombers won the Henry Kumpf Invitational at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, finishing first of seven teams. The Bombers scored 565 points, beating second-place Cortland by 20 points.
Freshman Joe Gage (Edwin Oscar Smith/Storrs, Conn.) won the 200- (1:46.10) and 500-yard (4:56.89) freestyle events, and also swam the anchor leg for the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (3:18.06). Senior captain Scott Wilson (Springville-Griffith Institute/Springville) swam a season-best time of 10:28.27 to win the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Matt Carolan (Northampton Area/Walnutport, Pa.) swam a season-best time (10:33.10) to place third in the event. Carolan also earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.10).
Joining Gage on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team were juniors Shane Hamman (Henderson/West Chester, Pa.) and Mike Ariel (Xaverian Brothers/Norwood, Mass.) and freshman Steve Croucher (Dallastown Area/York, Pa.).
Ariel also picked up a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (22.65). Freshman Tony Clark (Ridgewood/Ridgewood, N.J.) posted a pair of top-four finishes, finishing fourth with season-best times in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.68) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.38).
The Bombers scored two top-three diving finishes - freshman Mike Glicini (Dallas/Dallas, Pa.) placed third in the 1-meter diving event (209.15 points) and sophomore Andrew Longcore (Red Hook/Red Hook) finished third in the 3-meter event (205.25).
