Neenah's Alex Mishun brought home an individual title in the WIAA Division 1 state swimming and diving meet at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium in Madison on Saturday.

Mishun, who was in second place after the diving semifinals, edged Jacob Koll of Racine Park 406.55-405.05 to win the event.

Mishun was in third place after the preliminaries with a score of 175.60, trailing Robert Berousek of Homestead and Koll, who scored of 186.90 and 177.65, respectively.

During the semifinals, Mishun stayed right behind Koll, while Berousek faded to third. After the semifinals, Koll led with 288.50 points, while Mishun and Berousek had scores of 286.00 and 264.45, respectively.

Mishun then scored 120.5 points on his final three dives, while Koll scored 117.55.

Area swimmers who finished in the top 10 in their events included Appleton North/East's Ryan Goggans, who finished eighth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.89 and ninth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:46.93; the Neenah 200 freestyle relay team of Matt Hollub, Jeff Simpson, Daniel Meyer and Scott Schuchhardt, which finished seventh with a time of 1:29.16, and Neenah's 400 freestyle relay team of Hollub, Simpson, Meyer and Schuchhardt, which finished eighth with a time of 3:16.96.

Overall, the Rockets finished 12th with 85 points while Appleton North/East took 25th with 20 points.

Arrowhead won the team title with 217 points, one better than Madison Memorial. The deciding race was the 400 freestyle relay in which Badger/Big Foot finished first by .05 seconds ahead of Madison Memorial, with Arrowhead finishing third. Had Memorial won the race, it would have won the state title.
