Ben Hesen qualified first for tonight's 100 backstroke championship final with a time of 46.20 as day two of the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships continues in Federal Way, Wash.
Hesen, Ronnie Hehn, Todd Patrick and Matt Lenton qualified for tonight's 200-yard medley relay championship final with a swim of 1:26.13 this morning to finish sixth in the prelims. That is the fourth-fastest time in school history. Hesen led off with a 21.35 in the backstroke, the second-fastest time of the morning.
In the 400 individual medley, Steven Murry placed 22nd (3:51.19), while Patrick was 24th (3:52.36). Despite entering the meet with the seventh-fastest time this season in the 100 butterfly, Hesen's time of 47.46 was not enough to advance him to tonight's final session, placing 26th.
John Kevin Koehler swam the 200 freestyle for the Hoosiers, finishing 39th in the prelims with a time of 1:37.46. Pat Penoyar was 23rd in the 100 breaststroke (53.96), while Ronnie Hehn was 31st (54.63).
