Purdue diving head coach Adam Soldati recently announced the additions of Casey Matthews and Jimmy Page to the 2008-09 Boilermaker diving roster.
A native of Getzville, N.Y., Matthews is currently a senior at Williamsville North High School, where she has won four conference and sectional championships off the 1-meter springboard. She has also won the state 1-meter title on three occassions and was the runner-up during her junior year.
Matthews' top 1-meter score is 370.70 and her best 3-meter score is listed at 384.60. She holds the conference, sectional and state meet 1-meter (6 dive) records.
"We are thrilled to have Casey part of the Boilermaker family," said Soldati. "She is a beautiful diver with great fundamentals and we know her best diving is ahead of her."
Matthews' top performances outside high school include a seventh-place showing on 1-meter at the 2006 Junior World Championships. She was the runner-up on 3-meter that same year at Junior Nationals.
A former Buffalo Channel 7 Athlete of the Month, Matthews is a member of both the Williamsville North National and Math Honor Societies.
Page is a native of Crown Point, Ind., and like his more popular namesake from Led Zeppelin, he can also play the guitar. But instead of making records, Page has made a career of breaking them.
A senior team captain at Crown Point High School, Page broke a 22-year-old school record last season for a 1-meter six-dive meet as well as school and pool records for a 1-meter 11-dive meet. His top 1-meter scores heading into this final season stand at 309.40 (6 dives) and 539.50 (11 dives).
"Jimmy is a tremendous talent with passion and drive," said Soldati. "He is fired up about diving and it will be awesome to help Jimmy realize all of his goals. He has attended our camp for the last two years and it has been great to watch him grow and improve as a diver and person."
Page, a two-time All-American, had a great junior year in which he won the conference, regional and sectional titles on 1-meter before finishing as the runner-up at states. Page finished eighth at the state championships the year prior.
Page's high school accomplishments include a spot on the honor roll and two team MVP awards. As a freshman, Page received the team's Pride, Hustle and Desire award.
In 2007, Page placed eighth on 3-meter and sixth on 1-meter at the AAU Diving National Championships. Two years earlier, Page was a finalist at the 2005 Junior Olympic regionals and placed 23rd on 1-meter at the East Junior Olympic National Championships.
