David Magaro wanted gold. That’s what he set out to capture in Saturday’s PIAA Class AA boys’ Diving Championships. But what we want isn’t always what we get.

The East Pennsboro junior had to settle for second place thanks to the final dive from defending state champion Justin Duncan of South Park. Duncan was trailing before he scored a 46.50 on the final dive to give him a winning score of 428.65. Magaro finished with a 411.85.

“Silver is good,” said Magaro. “I can live with silver.”

Magaro was joined by Big Spring’s Tyler Dunsmore, who finished 11th (374.45), in the finals. Both were making their third appearance at the state meet, and both placed higher than they ever have before.

“I wasn’t that far from the Top 10,” said Dunsmore, “and the margin between me and eighth was pretty close too. “
