A Ringgold, Ga., man died Wednesday after diving in choppy waters off the shore of Key Largo, the Miami Herald reported.

Allen Gregory Kay, a BlueCross BlueShield employee, was diving with friends from Chattanooga.

The newspaper said he was about five miles offshore in waters about 20 to 25 feet deep.

Friends reportedly found him unconscious on the water after surfacing and tried to revive him.

The newspaper said he was not breathing by the time he was taken aboard a boat.

He was then taken to shore and transported by paramedics to Mariners' Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was being performed to determine the cause of death.
