A pair of San Luis Obispo High divers posted automatic CIF-Southern Section qualifying marks Saturday at the San Luis Obispo Dive Invitational at Sinsheimer Pool.

The Tigers’ Ethan Merritt won on the boys side with a score of 350.3, and teammate Tessa Merritt was second on the girls side at 329.3. All marks above 300 points are automatic qualifiers for the postseason.

Girls consideration marks above 200 points were posted by: San Luis Obispo’s Maia Vernacchia (third at 290.55); San Luis Obispo’s Tracy O’Keeffe (fifth at 269.96); San Luis Obispo’s Lisa Miller (sixth at 269.25); San Luis Obispo’s Juliet Richardson (seventh at 265.65); Morro Bay’s Gayle Bufo (eighth at 262.9); Arroyo Grande’s Meghan Anderson (ninth at 251.55); and Arroyo Grande’s Allie Celio (248.2).

On the boys side, consideration marks went to: Arroyo Grande’s Greg Bixler (third at 297.8), San Luis Obispo’s Dane Lindgren (seventh at 272.6); Arroyo Grande’s Ben Lowrance (eighth at 270.6); and Nipomo’s Alex Sheehy (ninth at 221.2)

BOYS TENNIS San Luis Obispo 9 (76), Mira Costa 9 (74)

The Tigers won a thriller on the road based on game scores to stay undefeated.

San Luis Obispo (17-0) got a 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 sweep from No. 2 player Julian Arnold but had no one else win a set in singles.

“Obviously a key to us is his dominance,” San Luis Obispo coach Ken Peet said of Arnold. “Overall, all three of our (doubles) teams came through.”

Mike and Brian Hicks, the Tigers’ No. 1 tandem, swept 6-4, 6-2, 6-0. The Tigers benefitted from Mira Costa having no No. 3 doubles team.

San Luis Obispo has its biggest PAC 7 match of the season against Arroyo Grande at 3 p. m. Monday at the Soto Sports Complex.

Baseball Mission Prep 16, Firebaugh (Lynwood) 0 Mission Prep 1, Firebaugh (Lynwood) 0

The Royals swept a doubleheader in which they outhit Firebaugh of Lynwood 21-4 on the day but needed to hold on tight to win the second game.

Mission Prep (15-5-1) piled up 17 of those hits in the opener, in which it led 11-0 through two frames of a game that was called after the sixth.

Joey Berg drove in the winning run in the fourth inning for Mission Prep in the second game.

The Royals’ Bob Mott was 4 for 7, Alex Detz 3 for 5 and Connor McQuade 3 for 7 on the day.

Mission Prep pitchers Dylan Morrow and Wilson Stewart struck out five and four, respectively, in complete games.

TRACK AND FIELD Mt. San Antonio College Relays

Templeton senior Justin Cutler won the invitational division shot put at the Mt. SAC Relays with a mark of 57 feet, 2 inches. The Fresno State commit was also fourth in the invitational division discus at a personal-best 175-6.

Nipomo’s Korben Boaz took second in the boys invitational division discus at 177-4.

Arroyo Grande junior Karlee Owens broke her old school record at 2 minutes, 15.5 seconds for a seventh-place finish in the girls 800, and teammate Brooke Shepard was seventh at 123-5 in the girls discus. Shepard set a personal best with her 39- 7 1/2 throw in the open division shot put.

For the boys, Arroyo Grande’s Kenny Sugishita took fifth in the invitational discus with a 171-0 heave, and teammate Austin Field had a fifth-place throw of 53-10 in the open division shot put.

Morro Bay’s Nicole Foster took first place in the seeded division of the girls pole vault at 10-0, which enabled her to take ninth at 10-2 in the invitational division.

Meagen Moiola also nabbed a first-place finish with her 5-4 leap in the seeded division high jump. Teammate Caitlyn Jones placed second in the open division high jump with a 5-2 leap.

Nipomo’s Kevin Britt took fourth in the boys seeded division 400 (50.45). For the Titan girls, Jeanette DeWitt finished second in the invitational division discus (144- 0) and Kelsey Jarratt finished third in the open division pole vault (10-0).

Bill Kearney Invitational

Paso Robles’ boys track and field team won the title at the Bill Kearney Invitational in Salinas by edging North Salinas by eight points.

The Bearcats’ 52-point charge was fueled by Nathan Nelson, who took first in the sprints with an 11.1-second finish in the 100 and a 22.56 finish in the 200.

Cheston Holguin finished second behind Nelson in the 100 with a time of 11.45.

Jay Faulkenberry placed second in the 300 hurdles (42.63) and Jono Oliver’s 6-0 high jump leap was good enough for silver.

Zack Nagengast took third in the shot put and discus with throws of 45-0 1/2and 151-1, respectively.

Devin Upson rounded out the Bearcats’ scoring with a third-place jump of 19-11 1/2 in the long jump.

On the girls side, Carissa Long took fifth in the 3,200 and 1,600, respectively, and teammate Alicia Echevarria was third in the discus (107-4).

Patriot Games

Arroyo Grande had a pair of event winners at the Patriot Games at Liberty High in Bakersfield on Friday.

The Eagles’ Danielle Lauinger won the girls discus (116 feet, 2 inches) and Jugo Gutierrez took the boys 3,200 in a personal- best 9 minutes, 50.21 seconds.

Lauinger was second in the shot put at 32-9. Teammates Julianne Alarcio was second in the 100 hurdles (16.09), third in the long jump (17-4 1/2) and fourth in the triple jump (34-2), and Rachel Murphy was third in the pole vault (9-0).
