A TREE carving in Lido Park, Droitwich, has been revealed as a swimmer diving into water.

The carving, created by artist Tom Harvey with the help of children from the town's primary schools, was unveiled at a ceremony yesterday.

Mr Harvey worked with youngsters from Chawson First, St Peter's CofE First and Dodderhill Junior schools to create clay models before sculpting the pine tree.

Wychavon District Council chairman Don Lawley unveiled the sculpture, before the year 3 and 4 pupils were treated to cake and squash at the nearby Lido café.

Art co-ordinator at St Peter's Caroline Sutton said: "It's been absolutely brilliant. They had a whole morning with Tom who provided huge lumps of clay and they made these really beautiful, big sculptures.

"It's something within the community they can go and look at and share with their families."

Gail Cook, a teacher from Dodderhill, said: "They thought it was marvellous because they don't often have a chance to see a sculpture being made right from the beginning to the end."

A similar sculpture, also supported by Wychavon District Council, was created in Abbey Park, Pershore, last year.
