The first-place Fairview girls were involved in a key Region 2 dual meet this past week. This week, it's the boys' turn to take part in a first-place Region 2 showdown.

The Tigers will put their 15-0 region record on the line against second-place Corry in the final dual meet of the regular season. The Fairview boys hope to have as much success as the school's girls had last week.

The Fairview girls (17-0) completed their regular-season sweep of two-time defending District 10 Class AA champion Villa Maria on Feb. 5 with a 107-63 win over the Victors. Maggie Glass had four victories to help the Tigers all but clinch the region title. Fairview earned at least a tie for the title Thursday with a 134-51 win over Harbor Creek and clinched the outright title Monday with a victory over General McLane.

On Thursday at 6 p.m., the Fairview boys (15-0) will look to finish unbeaten against a talented Corry team led by Jared Heine, the Times-News District 10 Preseason Swimmer of the Year. The Tigers pulled out a 92-88 victory over Corry on Jan. 14 in the first matchup. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Ryan Taylor, Wade Christensen, Peter Rickloff and Jon Paul Ore clinched the win in the final event.

The McDowell girls extended their region/league title streak last week. Now, the Trojans will look ahead to their District 10 title streak.

The Trojans clinched their 26th consecutive region/league title with a 122-64 victory over Meadville on Thursday and a 93-11 victory over Strong Vincent on Friday. Those wins moved McDowell to 9-1 overall and 8-0 in Region 3 with two duals to go. Jackie Rzymek, Kelsey Herbst and Kelsey Ferrante each were in on three victories vs. Meadville.

The Trojans will go for their 13th straight District 10 AAA title on Feb. 29-March 1.

Cathedral Prep's Joseph Stark has the top 200-yard individual medley time in District 10 Class AAA this season. If last year's PIAA times in the event are any indication, Stark could fare well not only in the D-10 meet, but also at states this season.

Stark's time of 1 minute, 57.21 seconds would have ranked 13th in the event last year. However, at least seven of the top 12 finishers last year were seniors. Among the returning swimmers from the event, Stark would have ranked sixth, and he has not tapered yet this year.

Stark also has the top time in D-10 AAA in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke.

Two Franklin swimmers are dominating Region 1.

Marybeth Hastings has the top girls time in six events: 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 IM, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.

Meanwhile, Nate Frye has the top boys time in six events as well: 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 IM, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke.

The Franklin boys won the Region 1 dual title with a 14-0 record. The Franklin girls (11-2-1) finished second to Titusville (13-1) in the region.
