The West Virginia University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams fell to BIG EAST rival Louisville this afternoon at the WVU Natatorium.
The Cardinal men took the meet 176-126, while the women won 168-132. Despite the loss, WVU showed potential in several events throughout the day. Morgan Callaway, Taylor Stallings, Kitti Veisz and Kayla Andrews started the meet off with a win in the women’s 400 yard relay with a time of 3:48.33.
Junior Lindsey Largo and sophomore Justin Galbreath also had excellent showings this afternoon, taking first in the 1000 free event with times of 10:14.30 and 9:32.77.
Senior Nick Delic and sophomore Zoltan Povazsay led the men’s side with three wins a piece. Delic took first in the 50 and 100 free events with times of 21.06 and 45.62, while also taking first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 41.48. Povazsay was victorious in the 200 free (1:40.28), the 200 back (1:51.82) and the 500 free (4:37.93). Junior Michael Walker also had a win in the 200 breast (2:03.85).
On the women’s side Andrews led the way taking first place in the 100 back (58.20) and the 100 free (50.59). In other wins for the women, Veisz took first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.69, while Stallings finished first in the 200 butterfly (2:05.96) and Callaway in the 200 back (2:06.76).
The Mountaineers will return to action on Friday, Nov. 30, as they travel to compete in the Georgia Invitational, in Athens, Ga.
