MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois swimming and diving squads will host Saint Louis in the season-opening Alumni Day meet, Friday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. in Brophy pool.
“The first meet is always an exciting one,” Western Illinois head coach Nathan Mundt said. “After weeks and weeks of training the athletes are always excited to compete. Saint Louis is talented and always competitive.”
Last season the Westerwinds took second place and the Leathernecks finished fourth in the conference championships. This season, Western Illinois swimming and diving returns 2006-07 individual conference champions Jason Meinhardt, Anthony Holzhauer and Laura Dinkelmann with coach of the year Mundt.
Adding to this season’s roster are newcomers Kaley Rowe, Phil Kurz, Mike Regan, Jeff Davis, Dillon York, Molly Carignan and Kaitlin Mareno.
“This year’s recruiting class has a lot of ability,” Mundt said. “I am looking forward to seeing how our newcomers will push our returners to swim faster and compete at a higher level. It is also nice to finally have a full squad of divers with the addition of Molly and Mikala. They will be able to add a lot of points for us in each meet.”
Friday’s Alumni Day meet is the season- and home-opening meet and will be available for viewing online for Rocky Vision subscribers the following week.
