won three events to help the University of Vermont swimming and diving team down Maine 172-128 on the road on Sunday afternoon. With the win the Catamounts improve to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in America East action.

“I am really excited about the way the team came out and swam today,” said Vermont head coach Gerry Cournoyer. “Maine is a tough team in the America East and we had some women step up and do what it took to win.”

Underhill won both the 100 (58.43) and 200 (2:06.18) butterfly events, while her time in the 200 set a new UVM varsity record. The senior also won the 200 IM in 2:11.65 and was followed in second by freshman Kate Weaver (South Burlington, Vt.).

Weaver would also win two events herself, taking the 100 backstroke (58.35) and led the Catamounts to a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 back (2:06.30), as she was followed by sophomore Molly MacMillan (Doylestown, Pa.) and freshman Stephanie Tomlin (Park City, Utah).

MacMillan earned a pair of victories as she took first in the 500 (5:10.14) and 1,000 (10:24.16) freestyle events. She would break the second school record of the afternoon with her win in the 1,000. Classmate Colleen Clark (Unionville, Conn.) took first in the 100 (53.80) and 200 (1:54.80) freestyle, while freshman Renee Gliddon (Acton, Mass.) won both the one and three-meter diving events.

Junior Rachel Kent (Mystic, Conn.) wrapped up the Catamount individual victories as she took the 50 freestyle in 24.94. The loss was the first of the season for Maine, who is now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in America East action. Vermont has now defeated the Black Bears in back-to-back years after also winning 151-149 last year.

Vermont is next in action on December 1-2 when the Catamounts travel to the Yale Invitational.
