Noblesville’s David Boudia was a double winner at the 2008 Speedo USA Diving Spring National tournament, which took place April 16-20 in Minneapolis.
Boudia won the Senior Men Platform event, scoring 523.85 points to teammate Thomas Finchum’s 496.10 points. The duo had already teamed up to win the Synchronized Men Platform event, earning 423.60 points.
In the solo event, Boudia was behind Finchum after the first dive. But Boudia took the lead for good after scoring 86.40 on his second dive, an inward 3 ½ somersault tuck.
Boudia’s scores kept increasing after that, culminating in 97.20 points for his fifth dive, a back 3 ½ somersault pike. The dive carries a 3.6 degree of difficulty, but Boudia averaged a 9.0 score on the dive.
In the synchronized event, Boudia and Finchum took the lead on their first dive, a forward 1 ½ somersault pike. The duo earned four 9.5s for that dive.
“I’m very happy we did it again and can continue to carry that momentum,” said Boudia. “We train together and it’s so awesome to compete with someone like Thomas.”
The tandem have won five straight national titles as a synchronized team.
Boudia and Finchum also have dominated the 10-meter individual, going 1-2 in the last six national championships.
The Olympic hopefuls are preparing for the U.S. Olympic Trials, to be held June 18-22 at the IUPUI Natatorium.
