Former Boilermaker All-American Amanda Miller placed second on 1-meter springboard Thursday night in Minneapolis at the 2008 Speedo USA Diving Spring Nationals.

Miller scored 270.65 points, finishing just 1.9 points behind 19-year-old Victoria Ishimatsu, who is coached by former Purdue diving head coach Wenbo Chen.

Ishimatsu passed Miller in the final round. The Seal Beach, Calif., native earned 55.20 points on her final dive, an inward one and a half somersault, and earned judges' scores as high as 8.5.

Miller averaged a 7.0 from the judges in accumulating 54.60 points on her final dive - a front two and a half somersault pike.

Boilermaker sophomore Ashley Karnes, who won the 1-meter semifinal round with 253.30 points, slipped to fourth in the finals with 249.40 points.

Purdue junior Emily Wetzel also qualified for finals and placed eighth with 227.65.

David Colturi and Zach Schultz finished fifth and eighth, respectively, in the men's 1-meter competition.

Colturi totaled 342.65 points, falling short of Ohio State's Weston Wieser's fourth-place score of 342.95 points.

Schultz accumulated 319.40 points and will be in action again Friday afternoon, competing on 3-meter.

Boilermaker freshman and All-American Kara Cook will begin competing on 10-meter later this morning.
