The Michigan women’s diving team heads to Columbus this weekend for the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships. This meet serves as a regional qualifying competition for the NCAA Championships the following weekend, also in Columbus.

Divers must meet qualifying scores during the regular season to qualify for the Zones. No. 11 Michigan qualified six divers. Seniors Elyse Lee and Katie Skendrovic should have a strong showing. Lee looks to qualify for her third consecutive NCAA Championships and Skendrovic would like to qualify for her first. The meet will feature several teams from the Big Ten, MAC and other Midwestern schools.

“I think the competition is going to be long, arduous and difficult,” Michigan diving coach Chris Bergère said. “I think our team has a lot of potential.”

The Wolverines should have an upperhand in the diving well considering they’ve made two appearances on the Buckeye springboards this year. The facilities at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion are some of the best in the country.

The Michigan divers have faced plenty of tough competition this season. The Big Ten is known to be one of the premier diving conferences in the country. The weekend will be competitive, but the Wolverines have the potential for a solid performance.

“I’m just looking for a really good showing hoping to have one or two qualify,” Bergère said. “If we have more, it would be pleasantly suprising, but not unheard of.”
