Although the visibility around Sumatra is quite similar to the ones found in Indonesia; the rich marine life and its nearness to Singapore compensate for its laggings. Although Sumatra is not quite famous as a diving site; it does boast high mountain treks, volcanic lakes, orangutans and tigers. Its proximity towards the west of Indian Ocean gives Sumatra a slightly varied marine life as compared to the other sites. Its closeness to the Indian Ocean means that currents can be quite rough; therefore divers must consider diving in the small islands; for instance, Pulau Weh in the northwest. There are a lot of undiscovered diving sites in and around Sumatra where bumping into big pelagic are quite common.
